Diskwarrior intel mac5/6/2023 ![]() But as far as tools to repair Mac hard disks go, DiskWarrior is once again at the top of the list, thanks to a complete revamp with version 5. Remade for modern Macs and ready for big storageĪ recent backup should always be your first line of defense against a failing or corrupted hard drive.Recovers stuff I can't get using any other utility.I reboot the affected computer in Target mode (holding down the T key on boot) to try to connect its hard drive to the machine I want to run DiskWarrior from. That's how I used it: I have it installed on multiple computers, which I connect using a Thunderbolt cable. So it's a good utility to have on a backup hard drive that you use only for recovery, or even on a separate computer. ![]() To get the most out of it, DiskWarrior needs to be running from a drive other than the one you're trying to save. Those folks can set up DiskWarrior to monitor the drive's status and ping you if there's a problem - either through an alert, an e-mail, by executing an AppleScript or by sending a text message from an email account. information, but it has some uses, especially for system administrators and other support personnel who need to keep systems up and running around the clock. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology), which is common feature on many hard drives.īy the time you actually start paying attention to the drive's operation, it's probably too late to do much with S.M.A.R.T. They stand behind their product 100 percent, and can often help when the software hits stuff it can't handle.ĭiskWarrior's Hardware feature comes in handy if you're trying to troubleshoot a problem with a drive that supports S.M.A.R.T. If you ever run into a complete show-stopper with DiskWarrior, don't forget to give Alsoft a call. If you've already tried another disk utility that's failed to recover your drive contents, holding down the option key when you rebuild will pop up an advanced menu a "Scavenge" checkbox will enable DiskWarrior to attempt to undo any damage from other software before continuing. The amount of time it takes from start to finish depends entirely on what you're trying to restore and what the speed and working condition of the drive is, but it's much faster than it was before. Once you're satisfied that DiskWarrior has done its, you click on "Replace" and it does the rest. Hold down the option key on boot up, you will see a screen to pick a drive/partition to boot from (I found that my computer does not display the partition name, so I added a special icn for each partition to distinguish them.ģ.DiskWarrior goes through a process of creating, verifying and comparing a new directory to what's on the drive, then presents you with a "preview" that lets you examine the directory structure yourself, so you can see if anything's out of place. 10-15 GB is OK for that partition (again must be formatted as GUID). Are there really no disk-fixing tools for Intel Macs Is the only option to format and reinstall and if so do I have to 'zero all data' And if I have to zero all data, how long will it take Thanks for any insight. I have one of these partitions on my external USB HD and it works fine, albeit a little slow. No claims by Alsoft (or other disk-fixing utilities I know of) that DiskWarrior works on Intel-based Macs to resolve an issue such as this. You can make a bootable copy (using the restore function of Disk Utility) of an OS X Install DVD to an external HD partition, separate from the emergency HD partition, and also copy the downloaded 10.6.5 dmg to your emergency HD partition, the combo updater available on the Apple web site. The is no point in copying multiple DVDs to the emergency HD (unless it is just for storage) as an actual copy of that bootable DVD (The OS install on the Disk Warrior DVD is not the latest system so it will not boot the latest MBPs). One is Das Boot, a free utility from Sub Rosa that allows you to convert. That is a bit more involved, and there are several methods. As the issue is running Disk Warrior, you need a bootable disk, let's call it the emergency HD, so format a partition big enough for the installed OS and some extra space for utilities like DW and for the OS to use, 20 GB should be more than enough.Ģ. It is also possible to boot an Intel Mac from a USB flash drive. ![]() The bootable external HD (or partition) must be formated as GUID or the Intel Mac won't boot.
